Cape Town

Coy

Our objective for COY was to create a moody, site-provoking space for the award-winning chef, Ryan Cole, located in the heart of the V&A Waterfront.

Coy V&A

The dark interior tones were designed to accentuate his food, and the breathtaking views of the harbour, the ocean and Table Mountain.

Chef Ryan wanted sophisticated, Afro-chic-inspired interiors featuring artworks by local artists from the Everard Read Gallery.

Given the intimate size of the restaurant, we selected a small range of finishes with strong, tactile textures.

We incorporated hard and soft finishes to create variety such as pairing solid oak bar stools with soft white sheepskins and showcasing a marble-top dining table held by a timber tree stump.

The lighting was carefully designed to create mottled effects rather than an even wash, with gold lamps at each table directing guests’ attention to the cuisine.

The fluid shapes and striking, contrasting colours pop against the blackened, sand-blasted timber walls and ceiling, creating an interplay that echoes the culinary experience.

COY is more than just a restaurant; it’s a celebration of local craftsmanship and the vibrant spirit of Cape Town.
